I got a new Infinium and took it for a spin at the beach. Seems to hit good and deep on the low end gold type targets.

The coin type targets should give a low high tone but they do not seem to come in at any depth is this a problem any one else has seen.

Need to test it out a bit more as I am new to the PI thing. It also does not air test at any depth. Is this normal for a PI machine?

Any help or tips would be great.

You might want to hit the Infinium board and read everything you can (be aware there's some ringer posts in there from other mfgs reps (easy to spot):

http://www.p2p-zone.com/infinium/

air tests are pretty much useless with it.

I found one advantage of the Infinium over some other machines was that it was quite evenly balanced depth wise between different metals of about the same mass.
The coil should be O.K. as its a new machine. If it had had a few years use in salt water I would suggest that a new coil might be needed. I've had a couple of P.I.'s that retained depth on pure copper, gold etc but the performance on alloy/cupronickle coins dropped right away.
Air tests are a guide to performance but can't be relied on. Doesn't air test at 'any (great) depth' does worry me. I certain someone on the forum would air test a few coins and provide the details so you can check if it needs a return to the manufacturer. Most brands have the odd machine that slips through thats not up to spec.

Thanks for the info headed back to the beach Sunday to give it another try. Will have the 8" mono coil and the I think 10x5 DD to test any Idea which to try or stick with the factory coil. Hope to get a good 10hrs of use out of the detector next week. I have used a lot of different detectors but this is my first PI. Bottle caps seem to sound really
good is there any way to tell before you dig them with the Infinium. Thanks again.

I would give the 8" mono a go.
Bottle caps are a real pain but you could reverse discrim. them by checking your signals at the iron check position on the discrimination control. Though they are heat treated steel they should give a loud positive signal whilst the majority of wanted targets will either drop out completely or give a very weak response.

8in will be here tomorrow. will give it a go at the beach Sunday. Tried to turn the descrim up they go out about 4 so no help there as a lot of other stuff does too. Will have to dig them for now until maybe I can here the difference.
