Garrett Pro Pointer AT

I am new to this hobby. I just bought and received yesterday my new Equinox 800 and Garrett Pro Pointer AT.

The question I have concerns the pointer.

I have no metal in my body other than in my mouth and teeth.

However, when I point the pointer at my body, or wear it on my belt in its holder, it goes off. It seems to be detecting metal in my body, especially in my ankles.

It does this no matter what sensitivity it's set on. So if I have it on and it is near me, it beeps.

Have you heard of this before? Is it defected?

Are you leaving it ON when you have it in your holster?

This alone would cause mine to go off, and has, when I forget to turn it OFF.

Not sure if this helps, and if not, just standby and the pro’s will chime in soon.

Post Script: I’m new to the hobby as well and it sounds like you have a great setup.

Yep of each time you are done turn it off if left on it will think you lost it and start beeping so you can find it

Chug And Red is right. You said it goes off when near your ankles. Could be because you have metal eyelets for your laces.

I do. I even turn it off and on in the middle of a one-hole pursuit. I've never carried a pinpointer in "on" position on purpose. A pinpointer can re-tune itself when left running for extra periods time. I've had re-tuning cause erroneous sensitivity, like you describe.

Also, hold the tip of the pointer to the ground when turning on to use. This will help beeping from ground minerals when you lay it down while digging.

The holster has a metal snap on it. It can't be on in the holster.

First time out with my new Nox 800 and Garrett pinpointer

Between the built in pinpointer on the 800 and the Garrett unit for back up, I am very happy with my choices

The thing that a few of my friends have had a problem with is the false sense of sensitivity. If you find something deep with the big detector, it might not even register on the pin pointer.

I was down at Galveston beach yesterday and my pin pointer was working pretty well. But it seems to get confused about which direction and location the target is at.

Does it do some sort of ground balancing when you power it on? Does it actually help to have the tip to the ground when it's turned on?
