Garrett Sea Hunter XS500

Has anyone used this older Garrett water machine? If so, is it only for salt water, or can it also be used in fresh water lakes? Drawbacks? Pros? Is the coil exchangeable, or hardwired? I know the unit is solidly attached to a short stem but was wondering if it could somehow be modified to fit on a long stem for wading purposes. There is one available at a fairly reasonable price, and due to age would like to know if it is worth pursuing.

Anything salt water can be used in a fresh water lake. As far as the specifics on the detector someone else will have to chime in.
