Garrett underwater Sea Hunter Mark II metal detector

I have a Garrett underwater Sea Hunter Mark II metal detector that I was learning to use a couple of years ago on florida's east coast. Before I could understand it completely, I relocated and am not back in a position to start underwater detecting again, but in fresh water (Great Lakes and swimming areas). Is there anything different when using this md in fresh water verses salt?

Overall, whats everyone's thoughts about this detector?
Is it any good on land, besides beaches?

PyrateJim, the Sea Hunter is a fine water detector and quite deep. However, using it in fresh water or on land can be frustrating as it has almost no discrimination to iron. In salt water iron rusts away quite fast and because of the waves and tides moving the sand around, you need the extra depth this PI machine gives. Unless your a young dude with a strong back made for digging, I'd get a good VLF water detector that has the Superior discrimination. A machine like the Minelab Excalibur, Fisher CZ20, Tesoro's Tiger Shark, or even a Whites Beach Hunter ID II.

Personally, I like the Excal because it is very deep and will sound off on a gold ring under a railroad spike. The others will mask out the ring with the iron. All these water machines are heavier than land units for use on the land, but will work. Also, a good land detector that can be hip mounted can be used in fresh water swim beaches with excellent results too. Just don't get it wet.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like I'll keep the Sea Hunter for when I get back to florida and for fresh water hunting look at one that you suggested, at least as starters. I'll be detecting freshwater most of the time, then saltwater and finally some land, so that is what I have to go by.
