I wonder if Germany was required to prove that none of their gold deposits were actually once part of some Nazi hoards.

The article is BS.

Germany did not accumulate Gold in NY "in the wake of WW II". Not even the Nazis where supid enough to put sovereign wealth into a potential enemy country.

In Fact Western Germany did accumulate Gold in America from the 50ies tille Nixon closed the gold window by trade surpluses. International trade balances were setteled ultimately in Gold these (better) times.

Now int he times were Soviet tanks were threaten to break trough to the Rhine in 6 days, the German Central Bank did indeed choose to keep the Gold in America.

I personally wonder if Merkel and the others will not use the hard earned treasure of their people to bail out Greece and Italy for another year or so. Sad to say but I think it is saver again in NY.
