All Treasure Hunting
In the spirit of helping others make their find of a lifetime I have researched some information and confirmed a great location for finding Spanish 8 reales and Spanish gold coins from a shipwreck that went down in 1781 in southern New Jersey. All the coins that have been found to date at this location are from 1781 and earlier

My detecting buddy was on the site and was shown a number of the 8 reales and gold coins found by someone who frequently detects there himself. There are about 50 guys that detect here that keep this location close to the vest from everyone else well that is about to change right now. EVERYONE should have the opportunity to detect there and maybe make their find of a lifetime. The area is known as Strathmere Beach - Roosevelt Blvd off the Garden State Hwy then head south.

Apparently, there were HUNDREDS of these reales/doubloons found over the last few years on the shore (not in the surf) after a dredging operation dumped sand from Corson Inlet onto the beach. Once the finds were discovered by the local authorities, they now have included an archeologist on the dredging ship and now use a screen at the intake area to catch any coins that might get sucked up.

My research indicates that the ship that went down is The Fame which was an American privateer. In 1781 she was sailing off the coast of New Jersey.
According to Walter and Richard Krottee's book Shipwrecks Off the New Jersey Coast: "She had captured a number of heavily laden prizes just before she Foundered" on February 22, 1781. The Fame went down north of Peck's Beach. The location of this wreck is unknown but she is believed to be a treasure site."

However based on the dredging and dump site where the artifacts were found we can now determine that The Fame actually went down much further south than Pecks Beach (which is now known as Ocean City, NJ) at Corson Inlet at the Strathmere Bay area on the ocean.

You can be sure that I will be there next big storm - hurricane or noreaster - looking for my gold doubloon or piece of eight. See you all there if you're 6 hours away its worth the trip

Email me for more exact location on the beach in the dunes where coins were found

Good hunting,

Don

Man, you should call yourself "Don pisses people off".
I can't understand why some people feel it is the "duty"
to give away information that may have taken others a very long time
to aquire.
I agree with Neil's sentiment, not necessarily in his words.
You should be ashamed to call yourself a treasure hunter.
There's no need to give away information to those that
don't do their own research.
Glad you don't have the code to the nuclear weapons.

Totally disagree, this is not a specific secret cache hunt or anything, just a stretch of public beach. Nice to see people spread it around. This is a hobby for anyone willing to put in the time and effort, although I would caution - southern Jersey beaches are filthy. That needle in a haystack may end up in your foot if you're not careful.

So let me get this straight... You are a new member who just decided to take it upon himself to "spread the word" about a location that I am sure many people hold near and dear to them.

While I understand what your intentions were, it was wrong of you to "play the role of God" and decide to ruin this location for everyone who was already happilly hunting there.

You very well may have just increased the amount of people that hunt an already well-known treasure beach by the dozens.

This state is small enough as it is, has too many people crammed into it, and is being overdeveloped rapidly. Let others do their own research and put in some actual effort. People do not need to be spoon fed information or resources. There is enough out there for everyone but ruining a well-known spot for the people who already hunt there is wrong and violates our code of ethics.

THIS GUY HAS BEEN BEEN BANNED ON AT LEAST TWO OTHER SITES. I ALREADY FLAGGED THIS POST (THE EXCLAMATION POINT). I RECOMMEND DOING THE SAME AND IGNORING THE POST SO IT JUST FADES AWAY. IT IS PEOPLE LIKE HIM THAT CAUSE THE HOBBY TO BE BANNED BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE ANY ETHICS.

Please Realize we are a TreasureHunting forum.

sharing Leads are important to keep this a treasure Hunting forum that is here for all, old & New.

As for other Forums, we are Not other forums.

Their Moderators don't need to Listen to us,
we Don't need to listen to them.

I don't see anything in his post saying "break Laws"
if the area in question is Federal, a note in a response would be allowed
as long as it is posted while respecting the members here.
& I Havn't seen this post word for word anywhere with a copyright note.

If other forums want to be secret societies, fine with them.
we are not a click

I agree with Jeff, it does not break any of our rules, it is a public beach and has been reported in the past, if it was private property it would be different but its not. It is like someone complaining about a post about the treasure coast and 1715 fleet.

Thanks Don Digs Gold
I for one appreciate it , I don't see anything wrong with sharing

Ok I'm going out on a limb here. I'm guessing that you detect there.

I myself have been banned at two other detecting Forums. One of which I believe you had a problem with too. That does not make us bad people. The jersey shore is loaded with people detecting. I for one am not into it to much. It kinda reminds me of tot lot hunting. Of course your not going to find any ship reck treasure in a tot lot. LOL.

Are you attempting to assert that people who use information which has been freely and publicly shared over the years "don't do their own research" and therefore are not worthy enough to look for the pirate booty lost near Ocean City, NJ, Strathmere, NJ or Sea Isle City, NJ?

In my opinion, someone who searches the innernets for "metal detecting on the Jersey Shore" is doing their own research, but I'm just a fool with a keyboard so what do I know and for that matter who even cares what I say.

Regardless, I will keep typing as I'm unable to sleep.

It is hardly shameful to share information which can benefit others and you should be ashamed to tell someone they should be ashamed for sharing information of this sort. In fact it is a shame that I'm not ashamed to tell you that you should be ashamed for telling someone that they should be ashamed.

The concept of freely exchanging information with others is hardly a new concept and this exchange of information even defines the word "history" in a way.

Sadly just as ancient as the practice of info sharing is the greedy practice of attempting to limit the sharing of any information for the purpose of obtaining gains, profits or advantages over others.

That gold was likely dug up by peasants and slaves, taken by rulers, stolen by others, then stolen by the Spaniards and then stolen by the pirates and then lost in or near Corson Inlet and if it winds up in someone's pocket who is complaining?

Greed is not fun

And how does this even relate to nuclear weapons?

arrrrr

I've been aware of this beach for many years and a very simple Google search will reveal its location. I've always wanted to hunt it but just have never had the time. With that being said, I'm on the fence about this post. It is easily accessible information but if it was a beach I was hunting I would be a little ticked if someone posted information that was this specific. I hate hunting when there are a ton of detectorists on the beach...one reason I dislike seeded hunts.

I don't think Don did anything wrong as far as the forum rules go but if his hunting buddy told him this information in confidence and he broadcasted it to the world then I would have a huge problem with Don. It would be different if he was on the beach and someone approached him then showed off their finds. Then it is his story so tell it. If his buddy gave him his bleesing on this post then so be it.

So Don my question to you is, did your friend give you permission to post his story on T-Net? If not, I would be surprised if you have any hunting buddys for long.

ticm: I don't hunt this beach and never will. That's not the point.
pyrate: What are you even talking about???

I don't see how myself, Neil, and Coinshooter can be the only ones who feel this way...

The points being made here about this being a public beach are unfounded. So what if its a public beach? There are miles upon miles of public NJ beaches available for hunting but the author of this post chose to call out a very specific beach with very specific information. Now tell me, is that publically available information?

I have NO PROBLEM sharing sites. In fact, I personally prefer to hunt in a group with friends and I willingly suggest sites to hunt. However, to suggest that going on Google, spending 5 minutes typing in "gold and silver NJ beach" and calling that research is hardly appropriate. Many people hunting in NJ are putting in time and effort to do so involving maps, joining clubs, networking, reading, and scouting among other things.

All this post serves to do is hurt the hobby and MAYBE help out a few people who just got lucky enough to stumble upon this post and suddenly just fell into an amazing "lead".

One more thing. I don't care if people have been hunting this spot for years and that lots of people already knew about it. I have plenty of spots like that which I currently hunt. I will and do invite friends to hunt it with me but that doesn't mean I am going to publically advertise those spots.
