I hunt a site that has had colonial through the civil war influence. Most of my finds are "unidentified junk" in that they are heavily encrusted with oxidation. The site was part of Sherman's scorched earth, so it's hard to identify which period my finds are from. This lock finally gives me an identifier, as the lock's brass dust cover has a manufacturing mark hand stamped onto it. I'll be setting it into an electrolysis solution to see if I can uncover additional information. The locks reverse is completely gone.

Has anyone seen the mfg. mark? It reads PATE(?). Nothing found on google.
