yesterday i was at a branch and asked for some cents and dimes. my teller had to get them from her co-worker at the window next to hers. after she got them i asked if they had any halves. she asked the same co-worker who gave me a quick once-over then said no. that pause kinda cracked me up. it also made me wonder what, if anything, that teller could've seen that would have elicited a different answer.

i know this has happened to many others here. let's hear some stories!

I occasionally ask for halves at my dump bank, and get the same kind of pause.

It is like I am asking "Do you have any moonshine in the back room?"

I am 99% sure that the teller's husband is a silver seeker.

Some tellers suck.. with that being said, I don't blame their reaction if you're the 3rd person asking for them in a day. I mentioned the a local bank manager told me they had 4-5 people asking for them a week. He said that there has been an increase.

Happens all the time , much of the time they are holding it for someone else . With that in mind its time to turn on the charm , sometimes you get lucky and they give you the coins meant for someone else.

The way I look at it, no one sees coins more than tellers. I'm going to guess that most of them know what's up. It's just a matter of who takes the time or effort to pull the silver, or if they even care. If they don't, cool. If they do, I can't really blame them - I'd do the same thing.

The key is to be nice, kill 'em with kindness and always, just in case, say you're just a harmless coin collector. :)
