Got to go out for a few hours this morning, before I had to come home and work on the Chicken Coop. Found the usual stuff, round-balls, little gobs of metal, suspender clip and various other trinkets. Then I came across a Mule shoe, and as usual, I start packing it around because I think it brings me luck, even though it's a pain to carry. Anyway, not too long after picking up the shoe, I get a real weak but good sounding signal, (44 on my 705), and it shows it's fairly deep. I get down about 7 or 8 inches and this thing came out with one of my scoops. WaHoo !! DSCN1944.webpDSCN1945.webpDSCN1946.webp

Nice large cent! Looks to be 1819? This must be your first LC is it? Killer find, congrats!

Ya beat me to it lol

very awesome, congrats for sure!

Yep, first one. This is one coin that I would have bet money on, not finding in Nevada. Definitely made my day.

that would be a dream come true. Nice!!

Awesome find. Great detail on the coin congrats

Almost 200 years old...cool find!

Oh no!!! That's not a giant penny. It's not giant, and it certainly aint a stinkin penny. It's a nice early American Large Cent. One thing is for certain, its totally awesome :icon_thumleft:.

Very nice find!

Fantastic find and nice detail. Good job.

Always nice to pluck a large cent. They don't usually come out of the ground very attractive, but always fun to find. I found an 1817 and 1819 last week in two different locations.

The thing about the Large Cent, is that I was fairly certain I would never have the opportunity to find one, unless I travelled East of Nevada. Someone had to pack that around with 'em for a long time, because people didn't start showing up in this area until the late 1850's

Congrat on your first LC. I got my first last Saturday... a coronet like yours, but not nearly as nice. The soil in NC is not kind to the coppers.

Awesome find. GL&HH.

Better than anything I ever dug up. Depending on the official grade of the coin (to me about VG-8) a coin shop might buy it for about $15-$20 ish .
There is a slim chance it might be a rare 1819/8, meaning 9 over 8.
And to make it even more interesting, there were large date and small date options of this version.
I have no values listed for this but rest assured that it's more.

Remember don't clean any old coin cuz it kills value. Just use a Dry old toothbrush.

Spectacular find for Nevada, great job!
