Looks like a Buck Creek variation, their barbs are stronger but the needle tip and high grade flaking are characteristic of this type, especially if found in the Kentucky and surrounding states. Middle to late Archaic period.
Exceptional point, a great gift. Keep it.
 
Kinda looks like flint ridge material from the pic,did he say where it came from?Friggn nice piece by the way :o
 
I agree, a location would narrow it down somewhat.

it came from coxs creek KY NOT FAR FROM LOUISVILLE
