Had the pleasure of beach hunting this morning with Anthony (Plazz58), and Joe P., one of the most successful beach detectorists on Long Island. With hurricane "Teddy" driving extreme high tides, we thought it would be a great time to hit the Atlantic beaches, but when we got to Jones Beach field #6 at 6am, it was flooded completely. We got back in the cars and headed farther out to Gilgo beach, and got cracking.
Unfortunately, the tides have brought sand onto the beach instead of taking it off, so conditions were not good. After a couple of hours I ended up with a quarter, two- dimes, a badly damaged Zincon, and three toy cars. Anthony bagged some clad and an earring with a stone, and Joe P. got two- silver earrings, another Tungsten ring, and some clad.
Everything was freaking deep! The Vanquish 540 really impressed me this morning, pulling a dime at least 10" deep with a strong 25 in the wet sand. The quarter (30-31) was deeper, and the toy cars (23-24) were at least a foot deep! Remember these finds were all in the WET sand because the tide had flooded the beach earlier.
So here's a short video of us on the beach.
