The Yorkshire Wolds is a very difficult place to get permission for detecting :( most of the land is Estate owned, and detecting is frowned upon >:(

There was a spot on NPR today about this and my first thought was "I wonder if one of the British mafia guys found it." The guy said they found one leg with a tiger or lion bite on it. Very interesting history. However, it is still a graveyard.

Thanks for the info.

I have been watching this closely being a Gladiator myself. Many were beheaded it seems and the bones show muscular stress and several had bite marks from large animals causing death.
This is very interesting. They were buried with effigy's but have not heard what any were.
Keep us updated on this interesting find. I assume they are done digging and the building project has proceeded. Cool stuff!!!! Thanks

This is a good point. When they dig all of us up, they will see our over-developed swinging arms, our favorite finds (gold coins?), and our headless bodies (wives almost certainly will cut them off eventually). Do you think they will think we were gladiators?

I'd read somewere that Gladiaters rarely got killed in the arena, because they were much to valuable to there owners, they had the best of medical care also, and if one was killed in combat the organisers of the contests had to pay out compensation :dontknow: perhaps these ones found, are captive enemy warriors.... made to fight Tigers or Lions for there life :dontknow:
