As some of you may know, glass is my weakest area of picking. I avoid buying any glass unless it is an easilly identfiable known piece for a steal of a price.

On Saturday I came across a glass cake pedestal plate. It also had a plate that it sat on top of (for pastries)? Both plates were sterling overlay (thicker than just plating) and was marked as such on the design and rim.

Here is an example of what I am talking about (not an exact match):

Viking Sterling Overlay Pedestal Cake Plate Flander's Poppy Pattern 6 3 8 | eBay

I passed at $5. What would you have done?

I don't know that i've ever seen a cake stand with an underplate. Seen plenty of bowls with them but...

That being said, most clear glass sterling overlay isn't that expensive. By not knowing the actual pattern you did right by passing on it unless you actually planned on using it.
