Lets write Glock and see if they will start making metal detectors. Super simple, totally reliable, and light weight. Kind of like the Energizer Bunny of detectors. Just keeps going and going and going. Sounds like a plan to me!


BTW... They would have to be ugly like their guns. One of those things you have to learn to love.

Your not talking about what? Well any way I should not talk I use the Glock23. Its a little smaller then the 19 so it's more out of site when it needs to be. But I use a whites so at least that's made in the USA

Love the 23....the perfect size. Said I would never own one when they first come out and have shot and carried more Glocks than anything else over the last 10 years. Shoot almost everyday and see everything you could imagine at the range ( work at The Ridge Shooting ) and still say you can't beat the Glocks. The S&W has got my attention lately in the M&P series but have so many mags, holsters etc for the Glock will probably have one on when I go toes up.

Glock 26, light security, not long range, but I have others to reach out and touch someone. Glock and my Statefordshire Terrior,(pitbull), what security! Both made in the USA. What more could I ask for? Frank

Gunrunner....I can honestly say the 26 is one of the most accurate production pistols I have ever shot. Don't know how with the short sight radius they shoot so well, but they are hard to believe. Traded one a few years ago that I had so many thousands of rounds through most people would not believe it. Used it in back-up as well as stock service pistol competition and shot it as well as the full size pistols. Love the fact all of the Glock 9mm mags will fit it. Trying to trade one of the City Officers out of one now. They carry Glock 22's on duty so he is wanting a 27 as back-up so he can use his service mags in it if needed. Heck ....that is my problem .....I like them all.

Glock is not an American company but the majority of them here in the states are made in Smyrna GA. I have been seeing quite a few of the new Gen 4's coming out of Austria but they say that is just a supply and demand issue. I agree 100% that they are not an American gun and should not be referred to as such. Still chaps me that the Beretta M9 is our military sidearm.

I agree, the military deserves better than the M9. Don't get me wrong, the M9 is a great gun. But the Glock is miles ahead it of in so many aspects

Even My Whites detector probably has some offshore components in it. My son brought home a plastic "glass" that had an American flag on the side, but in small lettering on the bottom, it said made in China. Frank

ticm hate to say it but I looked on the side. It is made in Austria. it was a police backup pistol untill they changed to .40 cal. I hate .40 cal. The blowback is out of this world. I made one change to the 26. I changed the barrel to a SS one 1" longer and threaded on the end. It improver the accuracy and cut back on blowback.

Why not have Mikhail Kalashnikov design and make a metal detector?

If it's based on a design like he did for the AK47.... you will be able to put it under water, drop it in the mud, get sand in it, and run it over and it will still be able to function!

Kind of non relevant but here's a funny story I read somewhere the other day, I'll try to re tell it accurately.

A traffic cop pulled over an eightysix year old woman one day for a minor traffic violation. The officer asked the woman for the basic information (license, insurance registration).As he was turning to walk back to his car the officer jokingly asked the woman "do you have any weapons or anything else in the vehicle I should know about?" Before he could take one step the woman replies "I've got a 9mm pistol in my console" surprised, the officer says okay, do you have a ccp and the woman said yes I do and presented it to the officer. He looks at it and says ok, there's nothing wrong with that. He ask her again, so do you have anything else I should know about? And the old woman replies well, I have a 45 in my glove box and my permits good for that too. The officer ask her one last time, okay, do you have anything else I should know about? Figuring that was the end of it he was surprised when the little old woman said I keep a 38 special in my purse. The cop says mam, although all your guns are perfectly legal for you to have I've just got to ask what are you afraid of? The woman turns to the officer smiles and says "not a F***ing thing. The officer started laughing so hard that he just handed the woman back her license and said have a great day mam!

I realize you guys are talking about great innovation that has yet to be matched, But these guys are both involved in mechanical engineering not electronics. I think the advancement is needed on the electronic side. The heck with the rejection circuits. What we need is a circuit that ACCEPTS only certain metals like gold, silver, copper or whatever you are looking for. No it is not the same. Frank

Agree that their doesn't seem that there has been any major innovation in many years. Lighter for sure and better battery life etc. but that is about it. Glock had never made a gun before the Model 17 but would say it safe to say it would be stretching his abilities on the electronics. I hunt some rough places as far as wading through the undergrowth and hunting rocky areas. Lots of wear and tear on the equipment. That is what generated the thread. It is kind of amazing that the technology has has been so stagnant on detectors. I do believe the discrimination and depth may be improved but no really new tech.
