Going beach hunting for the first time, need advice

You didn't say which detector you were going to use. If your in dry sand and move into wet sand and the detector goes crazy, try decreasing your Sens. and if that doesn't help in the wet sand, you need a detector with a salt mode or a Pulse detector.

To learn more, go to www.thegoldenolde.com/ I met Norm years ago and we hunted Galveston.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SCOOP!!!!! Saves a lot of time!!!!! Go at low tide...Get the tide charts!!! Also good after a rain when the sand is more compact and not so fuffy when things are deeper!! GOOD LUCK!

Hello!!! Sandman is right, if you try to use a regular metal detector you will run into problems if you get it wet. It will go crazy and give false signals and with mineralization you might walk over a nice fine and have false signals. however, I have found gold in areas people play and set up with a $50 detector. So, try to stay on the dry sand. Minelab SGT is the best.

happy hunting
