I would really love to try to go wireless on my ace 250. Who can suggest what products to use? Could any FM transmitter and cordless headphones work, or is there one brand that would work best. I did find where Khouse had posted using the RS #33-1253 kit, but I was unable to find any info on this on the RS website. Around $60.00 I believe, but I noticed that the FM transmitters and headpones might be a cheaper route. Just trying to search all my options here. Help please!!!!

I have tried the Fm transmitter a few years ago. Didn't work. If you get the 33-1253's at RS then buy the 1 year warranty. I'm going to try the BTA-II Bluetooth transmitter from RS and Bluetooth headset. I will try to keep all informed. But I have been using the 33-1253's for a couple of monthes with no problems. The headset that comes with the 1253's gas been rubbing my glasses earpiece. So I just bought a Bluetooth Motorola headset that fits better. Now tomorrow I will buy the BTA-II from RS and try it out.

The BTA-II and the Motorola BT headsets will not work together. I will either sell the headphones and get some others to try or buy the headset and transmitter in a packaged unit. The Creative looks promising. The Radio Shack 33-1253's still work fine. I was trying to find a more comfortable headset. Since I wear glasses it can be a problem.

I found some Creative Labs on Ebay.

Creative's Digital Bluetooth Wireless Headphone CB2530 Item number: 300091577888

Good Luck

Bluetooh would definetly be nice, but I may not be able to spend that amount at this time. I did see a post either from this forum or another, where someone had sucesfully used a Belkin FM transmitter that has several frequencies, along with a set of wireless headphones. I believe it all came from Radio Shack. Another had used a mp3 player and earbuds, along with the FM transmitter. Maybe this is possible with the ACE 25o, when it is not with the others. I will go to RS these days off and do some checking, and I will post my results.

apparently the Creative system won't work
ebay item # 170098276728

I bought the Creative headphones with the transmitter. They sounded good. Here was the problem. There was a 1/2 second lag on the signal. While swinging over a target the beep would be about 8 to 12 inched off center. The 250 is a quick machine meaning that it beeps right over the target. The RS 33-1253's have no lag. But some have posted the dongle plug has issues. I reworked my plug when I got them and have had no problems. I will continue to search fo more wireless options.

I sent an email asking White's what would be the best wireless set to buy since I have a DFX and the reply was:

Thank you for e-mailing us at Whites Electronics

I have been told that the Creative Labs CB2530 Digital Wireless Bluetooth headphones work well. You can find them online at www.computergeeks.com
and other places on the net.

Sincerely

Todd

So, I ordered a pair, should be by the end of the week. After I try them out, I'll be sure to let everyone know how they worked out. I see they have a short lead on the dongle so it can be attached to the side or top of the box. Got them for $75.00 at www.amazon.com with rush shipping.

I had wrote above that the Creative headsets have a 1/2 second lag. This means that you won't get a beep until your way past your target. They do work but I didn't like the lag. So far the Radio Shack 33-1253's have worked the best. But that won't stop me from trying other brands just to see if they are better.

I have two different wireless headphone setups. One is SENTRY Mod HO900. I bought them at a discount store for $16.00. They work very well, except. The system is FM. If you use them out in the country they work great. If you wear them close to town, the local FM broadcast stations interfere and you will hear country music, which in itself isn't too bad, if you like country music. You must follow the directions in order to get antenna the right length reception but it won't keep ou the FM stations. Their web site is www,sentryindustries.com. The other units I have I got from Radio Shack. They are Bluetooth. The headphones are #17-983. "Spider Bluetooth". Ther adaptor is CARDO BTA II #17-966. This works very well for me. Last week they got me a 14K white gold wedding band and a 1868 nickle. I am using an ACE 250 with the Sniper Coil with a pinpointer trigger switch modification. I tried both of the units on my IDX-PRO with ground balance modification. They don't work well on the IDX. I think it's because of the interference caused by the electronics from the detector. Not so with the 250. The Radio Shack units cost me about $83.00 on sale. Neither have the delay that khouse mentioned with the other units.

HURRY..........Radio Shack Has The BTA II's CLOSEOUT for $9.95

I use the BTA II (closeout price at radio shack-$9.95) with the STEREOMOTO (170-0970) *now onsale at RS for $69.95 (same as HT820) on my Fisher 1265-X and Whites Eagle Spectrum............NO problem, and "NO DELAY" Is a CATCH though. The BTA II's have a 3/32" connector that you will need to get couple adapters to end up with 1/4" for metal detector. The hard one to find is Part # 274-397 (radio shack 3/32" to 1/8" stereo-stereo) then you need the 1/8" to 1/4" stereo-stereo, stereo-mono (depends on your detector) *for Mono detector.....you need the 1/4" plug MONO, the 1/8" Female needs to be Stereo. If someone finds a wire PATCH cable Female 3/32" X 1/4" Male "stereo-stereo & stereo-mono PLEASE let me know. Jim ****the Fisher 1265-X has some weird warble sounds sometimes with the BTA II, with occasional snap-crackle-pop. But is because the 1265-X/1266-X is extremely sensitive with the crackle-pops. No extra sounds with the Whites. The audio is not overly loud, a medium MELLOW tune at HIGH volume.

I bought a plug from RS togo from 1/4 in to 3/32 but it didn't work on stereo so I made one. I got a male 1/4 and wired it to a female 3/32 that that I got from a cordless phone from a GOODWILL store, Had to break up the phone, but for $1.50 I psifd for it, it was worth it. It took a little messing around to figure out continunity from one plug to another. Make sure you get right down to the plug from the phone and desolder from circuit board. Took me a while to figure it out but it works good. I use it on my ACE 250 nly. Won't workwith IDX-PRO. Too much background noise from electronic box of White's.

no lag in signal, and it won't pick up radio stations or cell towers

HH,

I have been using the Radio Shack set for over 2 years and they work great on my Minelab Xterra 70, however, I tried them on my friends detector and they did NOT work on his ACE 250. They also did not work on my Teknetics Omega 8000. I can only guess it's because the Minelab had a volume control on the detector and the other two did not.

Think part of the problem is that Metal Detector headphone jacks, are not wired to Hi-fi audio standards. Detector headphone switches are not really stereo/mono switches. The ground conductor is what is switched to make the phones either series tip/ring or parallel tip/ring as seen below. I found this on a headphone site and it made me understand why my home stereo headphones did not work on some models, even with a stereo/mono adapter.

You can get wireless http://www.captainusb.co.uk/categories/fm-transmitter/"]fm transmitters[/url] for your computer that works off batteries.

I think the most cost effective way to approach this is with a battery-operated FM transmitter mounted to your detector, while using headphones connected to a wireless FM receiver.

On my Tesoro Silver uMax, I have a pretty simple set up and only purchased a few things:

1) Gold-Plated Stereo Adapter, 1/8" Jack to 1/4" Plug Model: 274-0876, $5.99 (Radio Shack)
2) Scosche FM Transmitter, Model: FMT4R, $12.00 (WALMART)
3) Microsoft ZUNE mp3 player (has built-in FM reciever, and I already owned it...)
4) Headphones...I prefer "ear-bud" style headphones over the "ear-muff" style. (Also already owned...)

As you can tell, I basically only had to get the Tesoro to transmit - listening was accomplished with equip I already owned and used frequently. So I went wireless for less than $20!

The Scosche uses 2 AAA batteries and can transmit on 20 different channels, so it is rare I can't find a good channel to broadcast "K-TREASURE" on. In fact, it hasn't happened yet! The transmission is pretty strong and by using my ZUNE volume control, I am able to turn the volume up/down to a level I want to hear my tone at. The signal is also remarkably clear, with minimal "noise" or static.

I think it works great, and I love the freedom no cord allows!

The new ones are the auvio 33-283's they don't list them on the website but do have them in most stores. The transmitter is the size of a zippo and the headphones take rechargables or regular AAA batteries the rechargable AAA's will recharge with the charger supplied for the transmitter. HH
