Had some things to do this morning that prevented me from linking up with Max and Denny at the oceanfront so I decided to hit the beach closer to home. I had recently gotten mt excal 1000 back from some OBN "Treatment" and wanted to get it out for a spin to see how it would do. (OBN actually found one of his RD submissions while testing my machine out so I knew it could find gold!) The going was pretty bleak. I was in the drysuit and out in the deep (not 6'4" "Big Scoop" Rich deep but my 5'8" deep...) and was finding zilch. At my turn around I moved up into the shallow and damp sand and bam! Just started nailing targets. The 1940 quarter came first and the silver ring was within 3 feet of it. The class ring is marked "Bastian 10K" and is 3.8 grams. It's a high school ring from 1952 but no idea what school. The excal did a great job in the iron infested areas and the gold ring was just a faint sound below a couple pieces of screaming/nulling rusty iron that I had to move to get to it. (again, thanks OBN for giving it the once over and the new connectors are great!).

Couple other cool items today, the old brass lipstick tube was a good one. All rusted up with just a small piece of brass showing through. After I carefully extracted it (with a hammer...) I cleaned it up a bit and got it open. It still has the shade of hot pink lipstick that OC Cop probably sees the "ladies of the evening" these days wearing! Haven't looked anything up on it yet but if anyone knows something about it chime in. The mask piece (reminded me of Ju-Ju the surf god.) was painted or plated gold once and is made of lead or pot metal. Found a bunch of copper pieces, found similartr ones before but not this many, all in one hole. 6.67 oz of scrap copper for the bucket!

Good luck all! Thanks for looking!
