Well, I'm looking to buy a nice detector strictly for gold. The gold we have up here in NH is mostly small stuff, placer gold, with a few larger nuggets here and there. Anyone have any opinion on whether the Gold Bug 2 would do me right?

I currently swing an XP Deus, but until the v4.0 upgrade comes out, I don't think it's the best for finding small gold. Think I'll just keep using it for coinshooting, for now.

So, somebody hit me with some pros and cons of the GB2 and how it compares with other gold detectors. Any help in the right direction will be much appreciated.

I'd be hard pressed to say any detector is "worth it". Your best bet is to ask someone in your area. Things like high mineralization can cause havoc on those high frequency machines--sounds like popcorn cooking. I'm not up-to-date on the latest designs, but the Gold Bug is how many decades old design?

For small, shallow gold, it's the best bang for the buck IMO.

There are easier machines to learn, but for the small shallow stuff, the Fisher Gold Bug 2 is still the hottest detector around.

X2 on that.

No better machine for small gold than the Goldbug II. The Whites GMT and Tesoro Lobo Super Traq are also great small gold machines.
