Gold in Colorado

You did one good thing by comming to the forum for help but you need to do some research as to where there is gold in Colorado. Unless you are looking for load gold the top of or near the top of mountains isn't the place to be looking although good gold can be found up high.Be looking in the streams in the valleys on the inside bend and on gravel bars. Dig around and under large boulders and look for exposed bedrock and clean out the cracks and crevises. And most of all make sure your research doesn't lead to you being on someone elses claim.

Good Luck!

Where In Colorado are you headed? You can prospect for Gold in Denver (I do). You could contact any of the Gold Prospecting clubs in Colorado to see what they are doing during the times you will be in the state - maybe you can join them.

As is always the case - Gold is where you find it. Read up about the Colorado Mineral Belt, and compare that to where you are planning to be - then start searching the internet for any of the places that look interesting that are in areas that have a history of finding gold. You may find places that are open for panning where Placer gold is known to exist. There is gold outside of the mineral belt area too - so you may have too many places to research before the summer.

for the short time youll be in Colorado, just join one of the clubs there for a reasonable price and be safe knowing your not tresspassing on someones claim and it takes all the work out of researching where to go! there are several clubs in Colorado that are worth your time!
