Meteorites can often have trace amounts of gold.
But they more often have platinum-group metals in them, such as osmium, iridium, palladium, platinum, and others. High gold content (more than 1 ounce per 500 pounds) almost confirms a stone would NOT be meteoritic.
Here's the rub: meteorites are defined as extraterrestrial. Pieces of space debris enter the earth's atmosphere on a regular basis. Sometimes these pieces can have high quantities of gold, silver, iridium, and platinum. At least one satellite that never made it into orbit was carrying a 1 meter-long iridium bar on it. If you find that bar, you will undoubtedly make a few bucks.
