Hi there I was wandering if I could get some answers I recently to some dirt samples hi an top a hill far from a creek or river about two foot under the soil is sand and gravel bed one 3 gal bucket produced some black sand and a very small amount of gold dust would it be a good chance that there is much better gold deeper down

Anything is possible. The only way to know is to go to bedrock.

Ok thank u I'm really new to prospecting I find dust really easy it's the bigger stuff that's hard to find lol again thanks for the reply

The bigger stuff is rare to find. The fine stuff will be the majority or your gold. Test your gold layers as you dig. Loose overburden, hardpack and bedrock. You may have gold in all layers, you may have gold in only one layer.

where are you located?

Quick question what is the pinkish color mixed in with my black sand and gold dust it's mostly found in the river but I do find it in some creeks sorry if it seems dumb but like I said I'm berry new

Could be small pieces of Garnet. - which is a good sign

I put two pic up on my profile sorry if they r bad I'm tec challenged lol

No problem as I had not gotten back to this Thread and seen the pics until now! They definitely appear to be Garnets but a closer inspection with a Gem Loupe would confirm it and if there is anything else in the mixture. There is definitely a lot of course black sand in the pan! You will want to save all of the black sand, crush it, roast it in a iron skillet or pot, then pan it out to see if there was any Gold bonded to the black sand.

It's garnet sand 100%.
Very common in Ohio/Indiana/Pennsylvania ( glacier states)
It is a ok indicator for gold not great.
Watch the size of the garnet, the bigger the garnets the better/bigger the gold usually.

On a side note its quite beautiful if you run a dredge or sluice and you get a ton of it built up behind riffles.
Especially when you do a clean out and the sunlight catches it.

Also too much blonde sand left in your pan, you should pan the lights off further

I have a new find I was wandering if u could give me some in put this pic was takin in a hole back in my great great great uncles open face copper mine I stuck the phone back in a hole and snapped a few pics and found this I have to smash a big rock to get to it
