Gold Pin

I have this antique gold pin that doesn't have any markings that I can find. It tests positive for 14K gold. Why would it test positive and yet doesn't have a 14K stamp? Is there anyway to date this item or even determine the origin? Thank you!

Older pieces aren't usually marked. I got a bangle at a thrift store for $3 cuz they thought it as costume. It's from 1890!
I don't know the date of your piece, but if I had to guess, I would think around that time. Edwardian, maybe. Your library should have some of the Warman's jewelry books. It's a great place to start.

I forgot to add, the clasp helps date it. They stopped using them in the 20s, I think! ( it's late and I'm tired.)

Sometimes also they will be marked on the clasp. On the actual part where the pin hooks under the hook. Or on the side of it. But some of the older pieces are not marked because I don't think that was a requirement until I believe the 1950s but I'm probably wrong it might be earlier than that.
