gold plated Kennedy half?

While asking the banks for halves today, I got this in a roll. Can anyone give me any info on it? I have looked on the net, but I must not be looking in the right places. It appears to be a gold plated 1981 Kennedy half dollar. Does it have any collectors value, or just another cool addition to the weird collection?

I have seen (at gold shows) folks selling a gold plating machine. They claim to make a good living plating car parts, guns (both in their entirety or specific parts for contrast), coins as gifts and even lug nuts on big rigs. As a sales tool they will plate a coin for you just for looking at their deal.

Just add it to your weird collection, no collector value. Fairly often seen on Kennedy halves and Eisenhower dollars.

The gold plating only adds a few cents worth of metal value to the coin, as well as making it an altered coin by numismatic standards. As such, it's only worth its intrinsic metal value, depending on its date:

1971 and later - face value only (50c)
1965-1970 - About $3 for the underlying silver/copper mix
1964 and earlier - about $6 for the underlying silver
