Hello,

I found what I believe is a pin, it appears to have been gold-plated at one point in time. I can barely make out the writing on the front but I am certain that there is an etching of sorts. I put the item under a microscope and am certain that it is gold-plated as it glitters and gleams. I can clean it a bit more but stopped to post before I do anymore to ensure I am not doing irreparable damage to an identifiable object.

Thank you.

Very cool find! I see letters (well, I see something maybe not letters though) on the front.

I gave up on cleaning it, I fear it will fall apart and the lettering will fade.

Thank you

Hello, sorry for taking so long. I was watching a Hoover Boys episode and they suggested CLR for gold-gilded items. I tried it and managed to expose the lettering, the item in question has "LOIS" written on the front of it. I also tried the method on my 1943 Silver War Nickel and it worked. Don't worry, not going to use the chemical on much of anything else, especially not on coins. My assumption is that it is a person's name and won't be ID'd but would like to update this thread and thank you all for the help.20200726_195412.webp

It may just be someone's name, but take a look at Victorian mourning jewelry.
