Had two hours, so I headed back to the Vicky large cent spot today. When I was nearing the spot (which is totally quiet and free of junk), I got a solid 52, figured it was a nickel...and then I see this- ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1495842910.849703.webp

Flip it over and YEAH BABY! ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1495842966.111908.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1495843595.265714.webp

It's my first real gold ring with marks. 10k jostens, anybody have an idea on the age based on the design?

I get to the spot, and it's slow going. Might be the most Iron and trash laden place I've ever had the pleasure to detect. Broken glass and iron in every hole. I figured I was digging iron, and I guess I was, but in the hole with it was a Barber quarter. Rock on J! I love digging colonial best, but digging gold rings always feels excellent. Nice digs

Your on a roll.
Congrats

Killer hunt! Congrats on the gold and silver.

It is a class ring. Has to be a date on the front or sides of it. Nice snag.

Congratualtions on the silver and gold! :occasion14:

totally awesome, you did a lot better than we did in the iron and trash this evening. beautiful ring and barber! :headbang:

Congrats on the gold class ring, :occasion14: Those were around into the 1950's, both my parent's class rings were of a similar design. Dad graduated in 1944 and Mom in 1952. I dug one from 1954 about a month ago.

Thanks, yes that date range is spot on.

WTG!
normally on those oldies it should have a 19 on one side and other half on other side

ive gotten that design from 20s thru 40s

Thanks for the replies everybody, and get this--

Tonight at a community function I was speaking to a friend of mine. He is in his 80's, has gotten me several permissions, and always wants to hear about my latest finds. He is from a neighbouring town, and that town starts with the letter "P". There is a "P" on the very front of the ring. I mentioned the initials in the ring are P.A.S., and he tells me his sister has the same initials. Wow! Then he says that she graduated from the town high school in 1947.

When I got home just now, I got out my loupe to get a closer look. I clearly see 47!

She doesn't live near here anymore, but she is still alive. As much as I'd love to keep my first real gold ring, I will absolutely return it to her if it turns out to be hers. She graduated 70 years ago, so it would be an amazing experience to return something with such a huge time gap.

I will update when I learn more!ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1495857196.346191.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1495857221.548040.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1495857243.192281.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1495857268.041952.webp

Really cool story and find.
Congratulations and good luck with the return.

Your smokin' brother. Nice old class ring. Congrats on your first real gold ring. I had a real nice Jostens Gold class ring and lost it within a month of owning it. Always bummed about loosing it. Getting a barber out of an iffy signal is a wonderful surprise. Great hunt. I got rained out today. Hopefully tomorrow will be dry.

Great save on the ring buddy, hope it turns out that you found the original owner as well! :occasion14:
That Barber quarter is a sweet find too!

Dave

about 9 out of 10 times I make a return - I get good karma and find gold the next day or next time out - few times its the next target
so hope more good luck comes your way :icon_thumleft:
