Very cool relic find! Thanks for posting.

really neat !!!

I wonder why we seldom find knifes like that while detecting, I mean newer, like what we all had kids. I probably had half-a-dozen sheath knives as a kid. I've found about half-a-dozen Pocket knifes tho LOL What happened to those I had???

anyway -- I'm glad you show us that knife

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

great save, looking forward to seeing it after restoration

Went hunting with 49er Relics to a Yuba County gold camp and we dug this 1850's Sheffield knife with brass hand guard. Broken tip was luckily found only five feet from the larger part. It's off to a good knife restorer to straighten the bend and mend the point.
Nice!!! Congrats!!!

love the gold rush relic.

What a historic find from the Gold Rush era, sure would be sweet if you could have that knife straightened and restored!

Yes my intent was to have it restored, but I found restoration work is very expensive. I was quoted around $500 to have this knife restored. I may try to do it myself with vinegar to remove the rust and some belt sanders or buffers to polish the blade, and make new scales with silver pins. If anyone knows a master knife restorer with reasonable prices, or tips on how to DIY...I'd love to know.

A knife from the gold camp thats really cool
