When out for a couple of hours the other day near a gold rush era site and found the usual stuff:
musket ball
pick- axe
Chinese opium tin
old button
memorial penny (Ha!)
All fun stuff. While cleaning out the junk section of pouch I looked more closely at a clip thingy and thought I saw some writing on it. Yea ... Pat Feb 20 17. Gave me something to research. Surprised to find that it was the metal part of a WW1 era pistol lanyard. Never would have guessed that! The braided cloth is long gone but what a nice surprise. Included a picture of what the original would have looked like.
