gold?

found a button today that reads gilt on the back with a star on each side of the word. it appears to be gold in color but don't see any designs on the front.it rang up as gold ,bronze,silver half on the detector.the back has a loop shank and it is about the size of a 25cent piece.thanx4 looking.

Just a brass or copper civilian flat button that was gold plated. Probably dates early 1800s.
