Shopped a store today that I also volunteer & consign at and had some luck. The earrings were heavy, non-magnetic, odorless and marked with tiny marks that I'm guessing are middle eastern but can't begin to decipher, so $4 seemed like a good gamble even though the backs were gold filled. They test at 21-22k and weigh 3.6 grams! The sterling dish is Gorham, 128 grams, monogrammed w/ a date of 1902, but I'm having trouble pinning down the date (no date mark, which places it later than that?). It was even described on the tag as sterling and had been marked down by hand from $7 to $5, not sure how it was still there but at this same store a week ago I found a pair of huge 14k clip-on earrings in with the clearance jewelry. The tag said 14k, they had huge 14k stamps on the backs, and they had been reduced to ten bucks so maybe I'm really just the only one looking there?
Also got a two-buck bag of jewelry boxes that yielded five mint James Avery boxes, and last but not least a great read, also on clearance, also two bucks! I was looking for a more "grown up" book but this is actually what I really wanted to read so go me.
