Went back to the site where I found the 1828 LC and the 1892 Barber Dime and instead of going in coin mode with the Ace 250 I went in jewelry mode. Found more junk but at least I got this nice button. The backmark says "BENEDICT & BURNHAM EXTRA" and according to google search that backmark was made from 1834 to 1843. After that it became Benedict & Burnham Co" or something like that. Nice goose design on it. Any ideas on cleaing it any better to get the black off and bring the copper or brass color back? Read about aluminum jelly, which I assume is the same as naval jelly, but not sure if I should just leave it alone.

Thanks for checking it out.

btw the manion dates to at least 1875 (can;t find older maps of the area)

I wouldn't clean the button any more. The time to use the Aluminum Jelly on a button is right when you see that first glint of gold gilding--Not after the button has been toothbrushed.
