think i read in here that pendants have one hole gorgets two or more.so im guessing that this is a gorget.looks like it had two holes but got broken.let me know what you think.tried to get some good pictures of the cravings on it but it's hard to see them good.

that is really an interesting two hole gorget/pendant! i think it might be an effigy of a turtle shell, notice how it has two halves, and the edge has the lines like a turtle shell around it? very cool

OK here is my opinion on this piece. just my opinion tho. k...? Its an effigy turtle shell Pendant, or at least that's what it looks like. I have seen many that didnt resemble a turtle as much as those markings on yours do. I think Nic hit it on the head.. The one thing that bothers me is the hole, yeah I know its reed drilled. ( the old way). It Looks fresh tho. Look at it , the engravings look old. It might help 2 know what its made of, and is this something you , or somebody close to you found? If its good I love it. No kidden. John

this was found on tha conasuaga river north ga. and there is a mound there ploud plenty of times.my dad has found several nice things here some i haven't posted yet.he has always loved looking for the indain relics but never new the correct names for them, some i've noticed he has right and others i've not heard of. he has a large collection and like i say i use to hunt with him as a kid and have a few of my on but nothing as nice as he does.what i'm trying to do is i.d alot of theses things so i came get them put in a nice disply for him.and here lately he has wanted to start looking again he is now 65. dont think he's looked sense he was 35.i think all of you for your help hope yaw keep i.d.inng these points for me.i dont know my materails that well but it's pretty heavy and kinda looks like granite to me got what looks like small crytals on the back side.

A very unusual gorget...and agreeing with the others it could be some kind of turtle effigy, the drilled holes are conical and one can see the rotation marks from a flint drill. Reed drilled items tend to have a straighter hole.
A nice find.

Thanks for the extra pics of the hole. Looks good. Its a neat artifact. John

after seeing the side view of the drilled hole, it is obvious that it was broken in manufacturing...i found a drilled antler that was broken in manufacture and the cone shaped hole is the same, probably drilled with a stone drill. again, awesome piece!
