Hello hello, people!

Today i was out with my go-find on an island close to where i live which has been inhabited for the past 5000 years, hoping to find some treasure!
Took it for a spin on a salt water beach and it did not go *pooff* when i had the coil under water, which was good.
Searched in areas in the sand that looked like they would be gathering places for objects. I didn't find anything other than a bottle cap, tube and different garbage.
Two of the signals i had seemed to be strong but i did not find anything. I dont have a search probe, so it might be why, or it might have been false signals.
I lost faith in the beach, and headed twoards a place close by where i know there was a farmhouse around the 1700's. I belive that during the 1800's the farm was moved to a different location where it still is today, but anyhow.
The location is covered with white rocks and i was not sure if i was going to find anything because of it. It's still a beautiful closed in location nonetheless. Great for a rookie hunter that wants some privacy.

Here are some photo's of the place for those of you who are intrested:

There's also a cave right next to the spot which is pretty neat:

The island was occupied by the germans during ww2 and they had as much as 5000 troops stationed on it (it's a fairly small island with aprox 120 inhabitants present day)
The site was covered with bullet casings and junk metal and the white rocks made it hard to get any signals. Every time i got good strong signals it was nothing other than concrete that was 2 inches under the dirt.
I was close to giving up when i got a steady signal which was fearly weak and similar to the signal i got on the bullet casings, but i decided to dig after all.

I spent about 10 digging after something that seemed to be invisible when i finally found a german 1 Reichspfennig coin from 1940! Might not be the greatest find? but it sure was a great feeling finding it! :hello2:

After digging the coin up i did not want to stop detecting, but i got hit with bad weather and had to head back.
Bought the detector just last week as it is something i have always wanted to try and i needed something to cheer me up after a rough period. It did just that.
Can't wait to get back to the same spot tomorrow, even though it gave me a hard time.

Sorry for the long post, but consider this my introduction to Treasurenet!

Have a nice day and greetings from Norway!
Karl.

Welcome to Tnet Karl..
And congrats on your first coin!
With the history there I'm sure there will be alot more for you in the future.
Beautiful place to hunt by the way..
Ps. Be careful not to put your coil in the air after being in the water, the water will run right into the detector and kill it..
George

Welcome to the forum, and I'd say that's a darn good first day!

Nice find. Welcome. Be sure to get yourself a pinpointer, it will make detecting much easier.

Amazing history you got there, Some research, and you be posting up viking artefacts before you know it. Maybe even older.

Welcome to TNET. I'm sure you will find the magic spot on that island if you keep at it. I've been detecting for about forty years, obviously showing my age and can't quiet hunt like I used to but I grew up in the hobby long before pinpointers were thought about. I have two that I got with the last detectors I bought and I don't use them. For me it's a waste of time but I know they are depended on by many now days so you gotta love technology. I always get a new detector and toss a few different targets across the ground and practice target ID/pinpointing so I can see exactly where the target centers under the coil. It saves me time and helps me locate more targets. I've always tried to master the detector I'm using, which sometimes takes a few trips. So, good luck and keep posting those finds. Thanks.

Thanks everyone!

I did not even think about that, George! Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, i can only imagine how much quicker it is to find what i'm digging for with a pinpointer, but didn't want to spend the extra money right away.

I actually grew up on the island, so i know a few places that i want to detect. Only thing is that most of the places are either covered with trees, swamps or there has been built bunkers over it during ww2. The ground is filled with roots and rocks, so i can't really imagine the signal going deep enough to find something old. Can't just go detect anywhere here either, so i dont know what i will be able to find.
Vikings were definately present and the island is even mentioned in "Snorres saga" if you have heard of that book. I belive that Harald Fairhair even visited or stayed here for a short time, but i'm not quite sure as i can't find the book to double check.
If i do find anything intresting you will surely see it posted on the forum!

Yeah i did not even consider buying a pinpointer when i ordered the detector, but it didn't take many digs to see that it would be useful. So far i just put the coil next to the hole and scan the dirt as i dig, just need to get myself a sturdy plastic hand shovel. I will try out what you said with pinpointing different targets.
Hope i do find that magic spot!
I will keep posting. Happy hunting to you!

Hilsen fra New Jersey Karl!

Norwegian American here...welcome to the forum and great photos. The German coin is significant, probably dropped by a German soldier when they occupied Norway during WW II. My mom grew up in Norway then. Tough times for sure. Keep in touch and maybe we can detect in Norway together some day (I have never done it). It'll take you a bit of time, but you will start finding more good items quite soon--I'm sure. Definitely get yourself a pinpointer. Everyone likes the Garrett Pro Pointer...if you want one from the US let me know as I know prices in Norway. I have an X-1 on my Minelab Explorer SE Pro and love it! Also use a VibraProbe with it which is quite good.

@ Erik in NJ.
I agree about pin pointer, I would NOT leave home without one, and I feel strongly that people should not be able to dig on nice lawns / sports fields without one. Cutting plugs into tiny piecees looking for the right one, how is that going to heal up ? It won't.

Did some looking at cost of Living in Norway gosh 50% higher than here, and we are taxed near to death.

@ Erik in NJ
Hallo, Erik.
Thank you. Yeah most likely dropped by a soldier. There are a lot of bunkers close and right next to where i was detecting, so there was a lot of activity in the area at the time. Suspect i will find more Reichspfennig!
Well i can't really tell you if it's worth the trip just yet, need to do some more detecting! haha, but i know people find all kinds of stuff over here.

I'm looking into getting the Garrett Pro Pointer AT, but i will have to wait until payday.
Have to agree Rick. The lawn does not look to good after digging up a ton of dirt or tearing the plug into pieces. It's also a pain in the ass, and today i spent about 20 minutes digging a hole to find an old bullet casing (they are everywhere!). Could have found it a lot quicker with less digging if i had a pointer.

It's quite expensive here indeed. Taxes are crazy. It's impossible to get a house without a mortgage, unless you move to a place where no one wants to live. Has gotten me to consider building my own tiny house instead.

Yep. That one lonely coin and the whole world has been changed!
Welcome to the sweetest addiction possible.

Good start!

Welcome to tnet and that's a good day in anyones book

Thank you and thank you! Sure was a good day, and i belive the coin was happy to be found, haha.
