Just getting started. What accessories will I find most useful? I presume most people carry a gardening shovel and bag for their finds, but is there something that's better? What else should I take with me on my first detecting outing?

Thanks,

Mike

Welcome to the hobby. First, get rid of the shovel unless your in a corn field, desert or woods. For lawns or parks you'll need a probe to find the exact location of the target, a screw driver works fine. You'll need two pockets on the pouch. One for the goodies, and the other for the junk. You don't want to find the same junk again do you? Always take the junk with you to displose in a trash container. It will keep you from getting thrown out of the park or getting a bill for the restoration.

I suggest you read the treasure magazine Easter & Western Treasures to get hints on detecting or join a club. It's lots of fun when your hunting partner doesn't find as much as you. Keep learning from this forum. Many of us have been at this since there was dirt and think it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
