Drove to my best sites to see if the snow had gone away

Even with the temps in the low 40's the rains the night before did little to wash away the snow and colonial fields still had 6-8 inches of the white stuff :'(

BUT ! the Mohawk indian castle site cornfield had two big ruts from John the farmers backhoe where he drove thru to move logs !

Wish I had taken my Nikon to get pix , but it remained warm and snug back home A field about 300 yards long, covered in snow, but with massive potiential for 17th century finds !
Took just about a hour + to search the long ruts filled with water but I did make a pretty nice find !

Quite happy with my last find of 2007 - A cut brass arrow point ;D

A Happy New Year Tnet !!

Nice! Glad you got to get out.

Talk about getting out of a rut. ;) Your dedication paid off Derek. Nice find. If you found that relic just in the ruts, I can't imagine what else is out there.
Congrats,
MM

Derek, at least you got out for one more relic today. Is it a 17th century arrow point?

Paco and I got out to the "Coronet Field" today, which yielded a flower button for me and three musketballs for the Pacster. :D

I know 2008 will be very kind to you, Derek.

Congrats,
MM

Site was attacked by the Dutch 1650's...slaughtered Mohawks all thru the valley.

Every thing we found over summer was in the wheat field next to the cornfield I was in on Saturday
Mr John is kind and cool letting us hunt there
The site was excavated starting back in the 20's and over the years but I dont think it ever saw metal detectors so.....

All metal in the ground is ours !!

Keep swinging MM !!

That is one nice little artifact. I will say that I find your collection of colonial relics to be one of the most fascinating I have seen. You have some great spots with great materiels.
Thanks for the reply Plehbah.

These Mohawk finds are near & dear to my heart !
On this particular piece of land I have read the accounts and history of what happened ,mass killing of decent people :'(

Even the metal finds, musketballs, lead carved figures, cut brass points, metal tools, all meant the death of a culture.
So these finds are in a class all by themselves

A Safe and Happy New Year to You !

D. ;)

Good you got out and interesting find! HH, Mike

Thanks CrackBadger !

It is a remarkable site..Just to stand there and imagine the pointless carnage that took place ! makes me shiver.
The finds are there !...First to discover the site devoted his heart and soul in preserving his recoveries, and donated much of his finds to a local museum.
No portable detectors back then metal finds went undiscovered..Enter ME !!! ;D

I have plans to see if the museum would accept some finds !!

Gotta go..I'm scrollin back to your "Years Best" to drool again !

Thanks Kirk ..

The Coppas are out there... the Wilvers hide with the Coppas !

Colonial artifacts are the icing on the Early American cake ! I'm gleeming with just a musketball find !
I know the intense feeling of digging a rare of the rares coin and relic , Same feelin you had when you dug the 1793 GW halfpenny, that stunned
breathless moment followed by hand numbing ^5's

So far the 1793 GW I think is in colonial degree top recovery of 07, belongs in the Banner of Best Banner Finds ;)

BDD tour 2008 will ROCK ! 8)
