Last Friday when I got home my wife told me I got a call from the manager from my dump bank. I figured something was up so I tried calling her back but she was out of the office. Then yesterday I goto the bank and dump a little over $500 into the coinstar machine in the lobby. Then I take the slip up to the teller to get my money and she says wait here one moment and then slips into the backroom. She returns and says the branch manager wants to speak with me. I had a feeling this was going to happen. So I sit down with the manager and she tells me that they ran a report on the coinstar machine and noticed that I have been using it alot and noticed that I have only have a $5 balance in my account (the min. you have to have in the account). She then says it costs them money to have the coinstar machine and wnats to know how they can get some of my business (money). She then starts telling me all about their CD's. I said I'd think about it and left.

Now should I open up a 1 year CD just to make them happy or say whatever and just continue what I've been doing. Their CD rates are lower than the savings account rate on my ING account.

Your system/setup with your bank is fantastic. Much applauds and keep forging that frontier. Thanks for your insight. Fight the good fight. :hello2:

" I always grin when I see folks use that 'hobby' word.
Gets down to the dollars and cents of it when folks quickly act like it is NOT a hobby.
Of course it's not. It's called gleaning, and it's a real business. A profit venture."

Nicely put.

Respect people and ask for their help and don,t expect to get services for next to nothing or that's the kind of service you will get. Everyone wants to feel valued. If your attitude genuinely shows that, it has been my experience that most people want to help. It's the bean counters at some banks that can test my patience. Best to be polite and check them off the list. Tellers at two banks saved me 40percenters this week. It was very humbling to think they would do that for me. Sometimes you can win the argument and lose the war. Burned bridges are no fun to look at.

I would not leave any considerable amount of money with a bank.
Longer it is there, the more you lose to inflation.
More you give them, more you lose.

Better to spend every nickel you have on popsicle sticks.
Next week, month, and year they shall have appreciated in value.

If CRH is known to bring a % return, carefully weigh the cost of doing business with a bank and determine if it falls within acceptable parameters for overhead of your CRH business.

As your 'partner,' they are surely entitled to some portion of your profit.

I've had both good, and poor business partners in the past.
A quick separation from the bad ones was always wise.
Even the best ones lost value after some period of time.

Best to keep things fluid, and dynamic.
Change, is good. ;D

Sure, this is a hobby. Without a doubt absolutely is. It's fun!!! I will be the first to agree that there is profit to be made with this hobby as well. I can also tell you that if I didn't enjoy this hobby, I would not be doing it. It is no different than stamp collecting which is another hobby where profit can be made. There are many, many hobbies were profit can be made. Hobbies are supposed to be fun. If it wasn't fun then it would be a job....ha!

There are also hobbies out there that work just the opposite.......you pay to enjoy a certain hobby.....lol.

Hobby = an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation

Bingo.......!!!!

Sure Lejeuene,

I know when I've met my match.

7 - 11 give me the opportunity to sort through the change in the register 5 days each week but I really go there 4 hours at a time just to meet interesting people so I can enjoy speedy, pleasant conversations.
I really earn my living as the head thoracic surgeon of our local hospital.
The weekly check 7 -11 gives me doesn't even cover the lease on my lexas.

I'd be more convinced if someone were rescuing silver from the smelter and donating every bit of it, in addition to their customary tithe to their church, or other charitable organization. And I'm sure that happens... just haven't seen it yet.

Some set it aside for grandkids, wives, or girlfriends. Not much different than presenting a gift after working a couple hours overtime.

Work? Well, I really enjoy what I do, and I'm good at it. If I didn't like it, or couldn't do a quality job, I'd quit for something else.

This week, instead of writing a couple hundred dollar check to a therapist, I think I'll spend a few hours each day searching for jewelry and coins at the park.... I mean collecting trash and pull tabs as community service.

RMPTR - Your kinda funny. I enjoy your dry wit. This is good material for the 'Comedy Central' section. Thanks for making me giggle.

Well, if I've found a way to get a pretty girl to smile, it's been a good day! :)

You know, I'd probably CRH, but I'm in need of a new prescription at the moment...

If I'm able to dig a nice bauble with my detector this summer, new specs are first on my list when I sell it.

I use a laundromat, and neither the owner or the employees check the coins.
He's a very nice fellow, and I'm thinking I can make an arrangement with him.

Years ago, after completing an electronics tech school, I found a gig where I could buy older arcade video games from the kiddie video arcade chains for really cheeep... I placed a number of them in bars, for a split with the owner. It used to get me silver quarters. All gone, now. My X needed them more than I... LoL

If you can make an arrangement with that laundromat....I'd go for it.....you never know.

Your video game statement reminded me.....I ran into a guy (twice now) while dumping......he has video games all around town. He brings in loads of quarters weekly. I planted the seed during the last conversation with him. I'm just trying to figure out how I can make it work for me. He says he doesn't search them....he just needs his cash. I don't want to tie up my money on quarters, but wouldn't mind a few silver quarters here and there. I'll put some thought into it.....quarters aren't really a producing denomination so I won't spend much time on them if we do work something out.

Your ex needed them more huh....lol. I would say that's funny, but it's not really, but since you laughed......it is funny.....ha! Want me to send you one as a reminder of old times...... I shouldn't have said that.......I take that back.

NO!
I don't want you to send me an ex...
Got plenty myself! ;D

They were all nice... well, mostly.
We just kinda had a difference of opinion.

Laundromat would be excellent for silver quarters, provided there are no electronics in the coin acceptors (the old push, then pull kind).

Videogames would be a waste of time. Video games use a coin comparator and a silver quarter would not match a cupro-nickel quarter, therefore get rejected.

Hey, where I work, we have gambling machines - they take quarters, and bills. Can they tell the difference between silver and non silver quarters?
