got to be more careful when digging

i was digging today when something hit in the back of the head it didn't hit me hard enough to knock me out it just dazed me when i regathered my senses it was a dead tree branch that fell out of the tree above me always look around before digging now

i was only about 2 feet down in a 5 foot wide hole the bad thing found nothing but shards

I was detecting a woods two years ago. Heard this noise and a 3" branch fell about 10 feet away from me. I didn't even scare it! I no longer go in the woods on very windy days for that reason, it was windy that day.

Was in a privy about 6-7 feet deep. Was throwing bricks out of the hole and trying to make them land on the outside of the dirt pile. I would toss them and step back from the edge and wait a second or 2 before bending down to get another. One must have landed on the dirt pile and caused a small avalanche that I didn’t see. When I bent down the brick came tumbling in and hit me in the head. It was a hell of a lick. Like “e” said, wear a hard hat when you’re in a hole

About this time last year i was searching an open field at a local park when a huge tree went down in the woods. It was about 50 yards from me and LOUD! Until that day i never really thought about trees coming down on windy days.

Good thread and great reminder to us all. Stay away from trees on windy days.

I’ve been out hunting before both detecting and deer hunting and have had the same crap happen to me. I’ve had branches fall off next to me and a tree fall smack dab next to me. A huge oak came tumbling down

I was camping in Sequoia and standing under a large pine tree when it dropped a huge pine cone on the back of my neck/shoulder. Man that hurt!

Never hit in the head personally but my buddy got a good size rock to the head that I accidentally bumped back in right as the sun went down and it was kinda dark. Man I felt bad. He recovered pretty darn quick. Must have been the bottles we were finding gave him some adrenaline. On another note, wear glasses or goggles cause ya never know. Dirt and glass in the eye is never good. Especially when you discover an Edison light bulb and it pops in your face. That pressure is still in em boys and girls. Not fun. Be safe. Jgas.

Oh good. Something else to worry about! Already on the look out for vermin that crawl, slither, walk on 4 legs and 2 legs as well as well as all that nasty green stuff - poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, stinging nettle....

and now death from above.

I'm going to have to find a safer hobby!

The ash trees are falling like crazy here. Last year my friend and I were riding back to a spot I wanted to detect when one of them fell. My friend who was behind me thought it hit me upside the head, but it didn't. It fell right along side me and karate chopped my detector in half.

I am also glad you didn't get hurt, gold boy.

had a hemlock fall over right nest to me one day in my woods....it was a sunny day, light breeze in the tree tops....nothing unusual...and this 50 year old evergreen just silently-fell-over...in slow motion too, oddest thing. I don't know which tree-gods i pissed off....
