I saw this old house one day last week,Tracked the owner down, and meet him here today.

He said I could hunt the property, but only if I mowed

I hope to get out here and try it one day this week.

Will update as I dig the finds.

It's really bad,(mowing wise) up about ten feet out from the house. Really overgrown, more than you can see.

I'll have to do some hand clearing there before I can mow.

UPDATE:

Well, hunted the old place today.
Found

2.15 in clad
One '63 rosie
one '55 wheat
Brass railroad lock- B&O Railroad Dayton Manufacturing company on the lock.
A clear oval stone mounted on a silver back.
What my wife believes to be and old hair clip. It is silver also.

Several of the Lincoln mems were '62 '60 '66. I knew there had to be some silver around.

Hunt very slow and still have plenty to hunt. I'll update as I go.

nice,, i double mowed a 1864 house last year,, came out with 11 silvers, and a lot of cool items too,,, all the best there....

I agree with fd3615...contact the local Fire Dept (we need burn permits around here, usually free. If no burn permit the FD charges you $$$$$ if they are called out). It beats brush cutting and it'll help that first cutting with the mower.

man that place looks promising! wonder if the guy would care if you sprayed it with good weed killer first then come back in a few days and weed wack/mow? well good luck and keep us informed!

Ken,
You are better off mowing anyway. Will allow you to get that extra depth. I've detected places that you would loose 4" just cause the grass was so high.

Looks like a great place. Keep us posted. When you gonna hunt the place - next weekend?

I'd jump on it like a tick on a hounddog. There are a few places around me that I'd like to hunt, and need mowing really bad. I might just look into making that exchange for hunting permission. Good idea. I have a diesel front-deck mower with a 60" deck, so I can cut a yard PDQ.

That's a pretty fair trade! Mowing will only take a few hours, and then you can get down to the real work!

Would definitely mow that for a shot. You might track down a weedeater with a cutting blade.

Going to clean up any trash first, then take Dad's DR field and brush mower over it, then the riding mower, then the MD.

i would drive my mower over there if i had to....one afternoon of mowing will get ya about 2 or 3 weeks of detecting...depending on how fast the grass grows
