In a previous posting I talked about the use of Goldenseal Root powder as a herbal remedy for spider bites. It also is a coagulator, instantly forming a scab and helps stop the flow of blood. Something to think of if you are far from the hospital or emergency services. I use it when I am camping and don't have bandages.

Goldenseal Root is also a natural antibiotic.

Do you mean bleeding like in a wound? Or do you mean bleating like Baaa...? Dang, I'm confused. Got anything to sharpen the mond? Uh....I mean mind? Monty

Thanks, Monty, I was rushing it and didn't proof it. That plus a mucked up keyboard are keeping my day humorous.

Oh, I knew what you meant. I just thought it was funny. If you are on the forum long you will get use to my goofiness. Monty

I always carry a piece of shaving styptic pencil. Fortunately I haven't had to use it yet. Also I've heard good things about super glue for closing wounds. Alum is also known as an astringent. You can get it at the supermarket. If it's a bad enough cut, I usually just sew it up myself.

Great for stemming the flow of blood, and antiseptic as well:

Balsam pitch is what we call it. Or what they call in the East, South east, a 'fir'.

They're the big pitch pockets in juvenille trees, having a tender silver bark, with dainty bright green needles.

If you cut them down, when mature, they smell like a cat's spray.

I've heard of miracle treatments using balsam pitch, slathered on a wound. Very little in the way of scars, and works like Mother Nature's 'Super Glue'.

Hey Mr. Beyer, welcome to T'Net! I haven't run across you yet.

Mucked up keyboards... I know what you mean. There was a week that I had to fight and POUND OUT a 't', 'g', 'h' or an 'n'. Try carrying out a meaningful converstion without those letters.

I got a mucked up hand. The finger I use to print K was broken and now it is stiff and crooked and I wind up putting Ks where they don't belong. It also doesn't help that the grandkids eat cookies while playing with the computer. I have to turn the kekyboard (see that errant K?) upside down and give it a good shake to get the crumbs out! Monty

Thanks to all for the profound level of understanding.
LOL

Nice to meet you Likely. Cool poster.

Just for conversation's sake I'll mention what I saw in a museum some time ago. The exhibit showed how some African tribes close various wounds. They pinch the two sides of the wound back together with their fingers and then pick up large, black ants and put the pincers on each side of the wound. As soon as the ant bites down they pinch off their heads. They just use as many of the ants as they need to "sew up" the entire injury.
