I don’t get it, the woman on the right is clearly more attractive and likely isn’t a complainer. Are you saying “boys” are shallow? I have to be careful. I got a 30 day ban on FB for the first time.

I’m not saying anything about boys or anyone being shallow.
 
The marketing Gurus at Minelab are working overtime and understand an important concept. Assuming the visual is a Minelab creation is giving Minelab a bunch of credit. Given two detector models, no pun intended, in the conventional setting - resting against a wall with no comparison of A or B gives no sensation of the qualities or potential. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Comparing detector models is a complex subject and beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! :goldtrophy:

I think the photo is comparing the size of the "coils".

MMMmm , I got suspended for 180 days 4 years ago , since new laptop & router tried to jump back on for FB for - marketplace views ,-6 months ago , they wanted a selfie of me 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿,- plus after one day , said I was suspended again for 180 days for doing Jack , that I could put in an appeal🙃 , funny I would take an Asian gf anytime ,there judges said Asian hate was the reason the 1st time , no reason the 2nd.- time,- 4 years later , BS , I hope FB & Mr. Z has to pay out big time for all wrong done - to people ,- on law suits , as there company has got it wrong ! For all those that purchase the 8000 , look forward to hearing the reviews, Earl PS I live on the East Coast , sure wish ML would make a powerful Waterproof machine for beach/water hunters 👍

Switching the subject slightly, If I may;

With reference to an earlier comment about the GPZ8000 NOT detecting a nugget on the surface. Pulse Induction (PI) systems like the GPZ8000 use switches to transmit "pulses". The receiver/detector turns OFF immediately after the pulse while the transmitter coil current bounces up and down as a natural result of Counter Electromotive Force (CEMF). The detector/receiver electronics is designed to wait after the pulse ends and a short additional CEMF bounce period and THEN listen for the response from a nugget! The wait time for a response is measured in microseconds. The response from deeper targets take longer and the wait can be measured in milliseconds. A nugget on the surface is not detectable because the nugget response is immediate and happens when the detector receiver is "off".

Oh I got it. There is one thing for certain - the 6000 is 100 percent a real tried and true detector.

I too wonder that. $1000 - $1500 detectors are fairly easy to “pay for” with finds.

With the increase in gold values, Is it juice worth the squeeze as they say? I don’t know. Buying used might be the way to go, especially if you can take a test run and try it out before buying.

I’m on the edge of taking the plunge with an older model. Older models don’t bother me much as long as they are built well. I have an import detector now and that is it’s downfall, which is pushing me to find a better detector, maybe a high end PI. I won’t mention the make of detector that was made cheaply.

Uh, yes, that is how it works in larger, high inductance coil PI detectors in general. There are a few exceptions like alternating semi-sinusoidal transmitters and ramping schemes. CEMF with damping and clamping in 2 amp deep design transmitters have the same inherent tradeoff with Tx noise in early time detection.

The need is for more power driving a larger inductance to transmit deeper while maintaining sensitivity.

Physics, cemf. and the double inverse square law along with SNR rules!

In time domain, early time metal detection of fast decay nuggets is contaminated by cemf and related artifacts in the transmit signal. Minelab patent: US 2018/0106925 A1 Apr. 19, 2018. Page 1, paragraphs [0018] - [0020].

Yup, they were bragging about the backpack having a water bladder like the camelbacks.... they didn't' mention you have to buy it extra, the bladder isn't included... so yea, you are right, no manual, no bladder.....

🧐 really? Well there are a sh*tload of nugget hunters in Australia that have found sun bakers for the last 30 years with PI's, not only GP's and GPX's but just to show the recent tech is no difference, I present for your viewing and listening pleasure, both ...

The missed sunbakers are the issue with the GPZ 8000. The large coil, high power design has trade-offs. One tradeoff as Bruce Candy explains is detecting small gold at the surface in a detector having this profile. It just came out and as you cited earlier a sh*tload of reviews are not good. Really! There are explanations for the bad reviews. This is an example of using the wrong tool and blaming the tool for not doing a job it wasn't supposed to do. :BangHead:

It doesn't work that way no matter what the inductance is. The speed of a target response has nothing to do with how close it is to the coil. It's not like radar or sonar. The target response decay is set by the tau of the target which depends on alloy, size, thickness, and shape. If the 8k can't detect a target on the surface, it won't magically start detecting it at some depth.

I've noticed in this and other posts that you toss around a lot of technical jargon but it doesn't appear you really understand it. Ferinstance, metal detectors operate in the near field which has an inverse cubic roll-off, not the far field which is inverse square law. Do you know what CEMF is, what causes it, and how to reduce its effect? If a PI detector can't sample until 5us, can it detect a target with a tau of 1us? There's a decent book that explains all the physics behind metal detectors, you might find it interesting.

Well I know a large VLF coil will not detect easily detected small nuggets on the surface. Really ends up being bigger deeper benefit. Everything else seems to fall in the upper inside of the cone meaning same diameter coil, you might lengthening the bottom of the cone, but the wide area of the cone at the top remains the same.
