IMG_2701.webp Thank you for your replies and likes guys. Does any one know what this was used for?

My grandfather lived in San Jose CA. He was a farmer, mostly apricots and prunes. He worked on many farms in CA and he loved to fish and hunt. So he may have got stuff while out hunting or at work. I know he hunted in modoc county ca. Thanks

That's a collection you should be very proud of coming from your grandfather and I'm sure you are. I know I would be.

Interesting pieces. The materials and types looks good for California. I see a Drilled Charmstone and the Point in the bottom right of the 2nd pic looks intriguing. Could we see better close ups of that one please? Not sure what the larger grooved piece is though.

Like Grimm said the points look good along with the other items, but would love to see some more photos of the large thing with the hole in it:icon_scratch:. Welcome to T-net:hello:and thanks for posting.

Could that be a fishing plummet? Great pieces !

In California these types are called Charmstones. I think I read once that it was reported by the first white settlers to enter the area that these hung from trees. Not sure what the purpose was though.

I was told that this may be a net weight for fishing. That sounds good to me but ill leave it up to you guys.... IMG_2711.webp

yes that sort of stone would anchor a net perpendicular to the bottom while floats lifted the net up...not deep water but in a tidal stream.
