Grandpa's rock collection

Hello to all,
I recently opened my grandpas rock collection he passed away over 20 years ago, and the news papper that his mineral collection was wrapped in was from 1972, I just started unwrapping them. I don't know what to do with these he has thousands of rocks minerals from all over the world. Is their away to get a value on the entire collection. I personally just not into them I'd like to see someone who will treasure them much more then me. Thank for any help is greatly appreciated. Here are just a few i haven't even scratched the surface. If you want to sell it post better photos, some of the pieces look good. Also where they came from. I buy stuff from New Mexico and Chihuahua.

Even though your samples are bigger it seems that one can buy a 800 sample collection for $200 Canadian.

Looking through online ads it seems to be the low and the high would be $4 for a single sample in multi specimen collection.
Now comes the question time vs $$$ spent selling off the collection.
There are many local Ads that say free/donation to school or education centre.

Thanks for the information, I will definitely take your advice, these were only a few that I had opened, I have around 6 more large boxes, I have a couple boxes that are larger in size, these were the smallest ones I unwrapped. Ill be looking for anything from New Mexico and chihuahua, I found serval from Mexico, peru, conn, Arizona, Connecticut, just to name afew Thanks again ill stay intouch.

Zeb is dumber than a flat rock, so that is what we pay him with to help slop the hogs and cut firewood. Flat rocks.

I found this earlier, its pretty cool its say Indian hatchet, Harrisburg PA.. ill continue to post items as I unwrap them if anyone see anything interesting or would like to make offers let me know. We can discuss it or if you might happen to see a gem, I am considering donation to schools or museums some one mentioned earlier. Thanks.

And hot dang, he can do a buck dance like nobody else. I think his extra toes give him better balance.

Make absolutely sure you keep the old tags with each specimen. Some will be worth more than others apparently. And with minerals it's all location, location, location. I'd find out by comparing pricing on a place like Ebay with what you have there. Then, pick out the pricier items to sell individually and put 10-20 together to put in a lot to sell. If you sell on the internet at $600 in gross sales per year it gets reported to the IRS, you get a 1099K to deal with for income and you have to pay tax on it, file a schedule c and se. That's why I have stopped selling. It would cost more for the accountant's fees than what I would bring in. You might also try to find a dealer who will take those you don't want. Keep some. Years ago I donated 80% of mine to a museum and got a nice receipt of the donation for tax purposes. The museum was a 501c corporation, or something like that (charitable). Most of the rest I gave to my kids, whether they wanted them or not. I have very little left.

Just get a charter membership for $20 and you'll have all the eyes that collect on the forum.
Then you don't have to sneak around, doing backroom PMs.

Ok, thanks for the information, I have not done anything like that nor is it my intention of doing so, ill keep your advice in mind if I decide to sell collection.thanks again.
