Hmm does your local water source have big current? My net weights are small but then my rivers are big and lazy. :icon_scratch:

that's what I thought they were, pickaway, thanks
tn- no there is no polished granite in the dakotas, not even by water
I have picked rocks since I was a kid and rarely find granite smaller than a bowling ball
I have a bunch of net weights or sinkers and most are sandstone and round, and never polished
I have never seen any that were polished
do you have some???
I will find some and post a thread with them, maybe somebody else has some????

here are some weights or sinkers just for comparison

Larson,

I think Pickaway, has the right Idea, with used as a war club.

Also, the smaller stone has more usewear on it, then would have occurred, if used just as a war club; unless you really killed "a lot" of enemies.

My thoughts are: Though you can grind grain, berries, dried leaves etc., into a food source with mortise and pestial; it is not a very usefull tool for processing strips of meat into jerky. To promote efficient drying, especially when using primitive knives, there is a need to pound the "jerky" flat before drying, and smoking. It's just a guess, but this seem like it would be efficient tool for that job. (It's a handy tool to have around just in case someone tries to steal your jerky too)

As someone who has made a lot of jerky, I use a similar modern "meat tenderizer club" to do the same thing.

Best Regards,
