Hey wrench, Welcome to the site!

I found a "medalette" like yours! It is at www.legacyamericana.com

At first I couldn't find anything on it, but then I just typed in "I propose to fight it out on this line if it takes all summer" and wow! It came right up.

They say it is 28mm. The one they show is made of white metal and is Choice AU and they are asking $125.00

Hope this is it!

That is a really great coin/token/medal whatever I wouldn't mind finding it, especially in almost my backyard

Your "book" is actually a hinge for an old wooden ruler. Have found quite a few in fields around here.
