Hunted the same park from a few days ago which overlooked the lake (lake michigan). After comparing some old photos of the park, I was able to find the location of where a staircase used to be which existed in the late 1800s. After detecting along the path I was able to find an 1864 two cent piece making this my oldest american coin. :hello2: Never thought id find one of these. In addition I found a 1919 wheat cent and a 1947 silver quarter. Im going to purchase an ultrasound cleaner to clean off the 2 cent as I dont want to rub it. Thanks for viewing

Awesome finds! the 2 cent is still on my bucket list! Congratz!

Research pays off! Congrats on your oldest coin. That one is still on my want list.

Nice! Cool finds are that much better when they're the result of a little extra research.

The US two-cent coin was one of the first pieces of money to have the phrase "In God we Trust" on it. Nice find!

Great find. Just my input, the ultrasonic cleaner does not do much for the cleaning of coins. It may or may not help to get the dirt off, but so will a soft bristle toothbrush. My wife bought me one for cleaning coins, used it once and put it away. Maybe someone else will chime in and suggest a cleaning method for you. Again, awesome find.

Sweet 2-cent piece! :occasion14:

Ultrasonic cleaners can loosen the surface of a coin, especially around the edges. This chipping will ruin it's appearance. Often enough they destroy coins.

Nice 2C.

Great finds, Congratulations! :occasion14:

Just hear up some peroxide for two minutes in the microwave. Put the coin in it for about 30 min. Take it out and use baking soda and water to get the rest of the dirt off rubbing it gently. That's about all you can do. When you're done dip it in olive oil and buff it out with a dry t shirt

Another great post that illustrates the value of good research. Hopefully you are the first to "discover" this site and you'll be rewarded with many more finds.

Sweet coin,congrats!

thanks for the imput ill see what i can do with a toothbrush
