went out this morning with a friend to the local beach park and five minutes after we were thrown out by the garbage man. i had no idea that looking for coins in the sand was illegal we were told to leave or he will call the police:BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead: some people don't get it but that's the way it is. after looking around the neighborhood we found an empty lot and oh boy i was happy the garbage man/rent a cop throw me out. i had one of the best hunts since i started metal detecting. after 3 hours this is what i end up with. i can't quite get the date on the quarter but i don't care this is my first standing SLQ and i love it. thanks guys and happy hunting :headbang::hello2::icon_thumright: unnamed.webpunnamed (1).webpunnamed (2).webpunnamed (3).webpunnamed (4).webp

If you were below the high tide line, he has no business telling you to leave, you should have told the dumpster diver to read to you the Riparian Rights law...I would go back just for spite.

I don't know but we weren't even close to the dunes man I was right by the water all he said was no diging here you can pass your metal detector but no holes it's crazy man he not even a park ranger. But it paid off in the end. What goes around comes around that's an universal fact

Even more so since you were right next to the water. Nice job despite the dumpster diver. I was down in your area a couple weeks ago visiting the in-laws in the Ruskin area..

Future reference:

"The title to lands under navigable waters, within the boundaries of the state,
which have not been alienated, including beaches below mean high water lines, is
held by the state, by virtue of its sovereignty, in trust for all the people. Sale of
such lands may be authorized by law, but only when in the public interest. Private
use of portions of such lands may be authorized by law, but only when not
contrary to the public interest."

Each states Riparian laws vary, these are Florida's..Us fisherman go through this battle yearly on the Jersey shore.

Awesome silver finds, after a rough start you had a excellent day.

SAME here in Penna. I fish and use this a lot on people that think they own the stream through their property. I just stay IN the water.

Depends were you are, if its tidal, yes you can give them a what for. If its not tidal, then you may have an issue if the stream is on private property, since the property owner owns the land underneath the stream, unless you are on a boat you can get a summons for trespassing. I know, I got one...:-\

excellent finds. love those standing libs

Here the law is decided. Navigable waters does not require a boat. I own a farm and can NOT prevent use of the stream flowing through my acreage. But I can prevent someone from exiting the waters onto my property. I don't unless they are abusing the land and littering. Trespass signs are usually enough to keep those uninformed away. Like right of way laws, You own to the street, pay tax on that portion of land, yet utilities have right of way and the government can force you to maintain sidewalks for public use. Fun eh?
