Over the River and thru the Woods...

Had a chance to hunt the old homesite behind one of the tobacco fields today. Upon the advice of "chopper", I carried my Green River good luck token with me and I'd have to say it worked ...

I literally had to walk about a mile around the field to the back of the first stand of trees (in the field pic - look to the far right of the trees and you'll see the trail curving around). Unfortunately, the land owner informed me that I was not able to bring any cameras with me nor was I allowed to walk through the rows. He apparently has had problems with hunters in the past taking advantage of his permission and in his words, "turnin' the place into a damn party palace"...

Anyway, when I got to the other side of trees, I saw nothing. No old home, no outhouse, nada. I decided to venture into the woods a little (it was very warm today - didn't feel like meeting up with any critters) and that's where I found the old Coke bottle pieces. Then I found the old Dr. Pepper piece. I started to swing the coil (mind you - this was my first time MD'ing IN the woods) and was getting frustrated as h#*@ because of how tight it was in there. I then got a solid penny/dime signal - barely four inches down and I pulled up the wheatie - 1910. Seing the date I was getting "un-frustrated" rather quickly. Next signal I dug the strange round piece (it looks like it's some sort of cap to something) with the mother-of-pearl button(?!).
I dug a few nails (or what I think are nails) a tore up Buffalo with no date (go figure :tard:) and I eyeballed what I believe to be a piece of pottery(?). I was getting ready to split when I got a decent quarter tone and dug up the green shot-gun shell. I checked the hole and I was still getting that quarter signal - had a little trouble pin-pointing so I just dug out wider - I thought I was seeing things when I saw the edge of a coin. All I kept thinking was that it was a large cent - and it was - until I got home and washed it up. Call me crazy, but I'm glad I carried that "good luck token" with me today - after I washed what I thought was a large cent - I realized what I dug up was a "hard luck token" - dated 1837!!! It's not really worth much, but it's the oldest "coin" I've dug so far and it's cool as a cucumber ;D. The front reads, "E Pluribus Unum" and the back reads, "Millions for Defence - Not One Cent - For Tribute". I'll definitely be heading back there this weekend as I am off for three days and it's supposed to rain tomorrow. It should be nice and sloppy on the way back across the trail... ;D

Thanks for stopping by and keep on swingin'...

Lots o'pics to peruse...

Congrats on all your finds...I really like your hard times token. I found my first a few months back. I love the history behind those finds even though mine was not worth that much also.
