Hi all,
I was able to spend several days around Green River UT last week. Still summer time, 90-95 degrees each day! Lots of cool places around the town if you spend the time looking!

First pic is Temple Mountain, an old uranium mining district. DSCN2196.webp

Second pic is an out house with a view! DSCN2217.webp

This pic is of Crystal Geyser, though it wasn't erupting;

Sunset over the San Rafael Mtns.DSCN2341.webp

Finally the blood moon eclipse rising over the book cliffs;

Thanks for looking!

Sorry 'bout the attachments on the bottom, that was the pic I wanted to post but it kept rotating 90 degrees - not sure what I did or didn't do. I am somewhat technically challenged!!

Bet it's a tad chilly on that commode long about Christmas Eve...

Great pictures. I've spent many nights in Green River Utah over the last 20 years and I've never taken the time to explore the surrounding area. I do though want to head over to the old missile base with an MD someday. Did you make it to Ray's Tavern in old town GR for a burger?

Hmmm, Brrrr, Christmas eve - but you might catch a glimpse of the jolly old fella as he flies overhead!

I have passed through GR many times but never spent any time in the area either. Was planning on camping in the Moab area but there were several festivals happening and everywhere was packed with folks, so I ended up around GR. I didn't learn about Ray's until my last day there so I didn't make it there. Is the missile base the compound southeast of town a little ways? If so I saw it but it looked like a place one shouldn't be in so I turned around before I passed through the gate.

Yeah, SE of town is the old MB. I know, it does look like an intimidating place. Maybe I shouldn't be thinking about going around that place.. In the off season there's nobody around this area, but I am starting to wonder if there will ever be an off season around Moab anymore? Seems the tourist areas are getting pretty good at promoting more and more events to keep the tourist coming.

The gate to the MB is currently hanging by a thread and wide open, but it did feel very intimidating.
I was talking with a checker in the Moab City Market and she said pretty much from March 1 until Nov 1 Moab has festivals/events scheduled every weekend. I guess its good for them. I am glad I knew it before it became a trendy place!

We started camping at Horsethief Campground on 313 NW of Moab. It's first come, first served and not a lot of people know about it. Most people wind up there cause all the other campgrounds are full and they only stay one night. You need to get there early in the day though. I have seen it fill up a few times after 4 p.m. Makes a good base of operations.

Thanks for the tip RGINN! I want to try to get out there again before winter sets in. If I can swing it I will check it out.
Snow in Frisco this weekend?

Had frost on the winshield Saturday morning and a light dusting of snow on the mountain tops. Good chance of rain through the next week and most of that will probably be snow at around 10,000ft.

Let me fix one of those for you so it doesn't spill. :)
