Went out to the same spot for a two hour hunt tonight. This time I started a little farther into the spot than normal. Started with two different size horse shoes, which are always a welcomed find for me! The smaller shoe is pretty interesting. I also found the head of a massive wrench, that I am assuming was used on the railroad. I also found a 1980 Canadian 25 cent peice, which is nothing special, but I have never found one before. Last hit in the new area were the two junk jewelry earings, only markings "patent pending". Not sure what they invented, but I hope they got it! Haha

For the last 20 minutes I decided to move to the area where I normally hunt just for the heck of it. It was realllllyyyy busy with signals and iron, so I bumped the sensitivity down to 90 for my CLEANDEEP program and BAM! Found some sterling silver links to a bracelet, which I had found two of the same kind last year. I then proceeded to hit two Indian head pennies (1903 & 1904) on back to back "walk off" plugs. My last two plugs and I was happy to go home with two pretty ladies and silver!

I have been killing Indian heads since I found my first one, six total in about a week. I have not yet joined the 1800s Indian head club yet... That is my next goal!

Dan

Congrats on digging those keepers Dan. Sounds like you're having fun there. The wrench may have been used on an old travelling steam engine that came by to do the thrashing, if was it ever farm land. Is this site next to a railroad?

This is directly next to a railroad, maybe 20 feet from all the finds today. This was a WWII camp for soldiers to get on the train, and the spot they loaded the tanks on the train from the converted GM factories. Grand Blanc is one of the automotive capitals of the country. After the war it was turned into a normal homesite. This is why I have found everything from old coins, military buttons, train artifacts and everyday living artifacts. It's a fun realiable place to have!

Very nice finds! Sounds like a good place to keep busy for a long time :occasion14:

Nice shoes. During a relic hunt last March I pulled a number of mule and horse shoes which were not interesting in and of themselves but said a lot about the area around them and allowed me to focus in on some areas of the farm we were hunting. In one 10 ft sq. area I found 3 mule shoes and a small tractor drive shaft section. Never found the fourth shoe. Wondered if I had discovered the final resting place of a bizarre hybrid tractor mule (the experiment of some mad scientist/farmer of years past) or was witness to the sad aftermath of a tragic tractor and mule encounter. During that same hunt, I dug up two horse shoes about 8" down, what made it interesting was that they were of different sizes and interlocked together! I don't think that happens just by chance, but can't explain how they came to be like that. Just one of several head shaking moments that seem to frequently accompany this hobby.

The best part is making up the crazy stories of how they got there! I love it! I always do the same thing.

Nice job! You keep going you will complete that bracelet!
