Hi all!

I am spending a few weeks up in Alaska. While I am here, I am doing a little shopping. In Anchorage, I got a 2004 ASE for $28 and an 1874-CC Trade Dollar for $125. Right now, it is 5:00 and the sun has been up since three. Can't wait for all day of sun!

An ASE at $20 would be a decent deal. Also, $125 for the trade dollar is highly suspect. That is at least a $500 coin.

Can't right now. Still in Alaska. I won't be able to for another 2 weeks.

$28 seems high for a ASE. Hope you didn't buy a counterfeit trade dollar. If its real i think you made up for buying the ASE at a higher price.

Here are the long awaited pictures!

Stars on obverse look wrong, date looks wrong, eagles head looks wrong, "R" in DOLLAR looks weak towards the bottom, mintmark looks wrong, wear on obverse is inconsistent with the wear on the reverse.

I have to agree with Ben. Too many inconsistencies on this coin. Wear patterns, lettering, even the motto on the pedestal looks suspect. I will admit, however, that it is frequently difficult to judge a coin based on poor quality images paired with trifocals.

time for more coffee

I had told the guy that it looked different than other Trade Dollars I had seen, and he told me that there were many different varieties of a trade dollar, so they sold it to me as an authentic coin. What do you think I should do now?

No, but isn't it illegal for a registered store to sell a coin that is fake as a real coin?
