for one local group the Confederate battle flag is a symbol of history, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans will celebrate the “stars and bars” next month. The group will sponsor a Confederate Flag Day to honor the history they hold dear.
“We as the sons revere the history of our families of the South and of America, and with that we wish to keep our history alive and our heritage along with that,” said Gary Casteel of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

The gathering may be held at the Farnsworth House Inn off Baltimore Street on March 5, from 2-4 p.m. they are trying to get a Permit to hold it on the Battle Field

I hope Not. I'll have to delete responses & lock it.

now that the Confederate Flag has been removed from many
public places, the Confederate flag is best considered a "Historical Treasure" !
or "Historical Artifact"

The post is about that Treasure/Artifact.

as a part of history --that flag flew upon the battlefield , representing the confederate forces ...it is historically correct to have that flag at the confederate line areas to show park go ers where those lines were in relationship to the union lines and the distances between them that the men had to cross while under fire ...to remove the flags is to "remove" the men and history that occurred there (remember the south viewed itself as a "country" during the war ) ...what if the british flag was removed from the battle grounds as "offensive" ... and we were not to talk about "britian" historically speaking .... the tour guide would go George Washington fought the ---------- here in 1778 , the ------------ had 5000 men from----------

The Eternal Light Peace Memorial will be the venue for the inaugural Confederate Flag Day celebration in Gettysburg, officials confirmed Tuesday.

The event is free and will take place from 2 to 4 p.m., Casteel said Feb. 18. There will be a display of flags and speech about the history of the flag and its significance, according to the permit.

The National Park Service has issued a permit to the Sons of Confederate Veterans to hold an event celebrating the stars and bars at the Gettysburg National Military Park, park spokesperson Katie Lawhon said Tuesday.

Organizers of the event, scheduled for March 5, will try to break down the negative stigma connected to the southern symbol
